Afraid to Leave Your comfort Zone?

My golf buddies all swing graphite shafted drivers and 3-woods. I am still swinging steel. I consistently hit my steel shafted drive 270 to 280 yards. And at least 70% of my drives land in the fairway! Most of my buddies spray the ball all over the place. During a recent outing, one of my friends lost at least 8 balls during the round. But he was hitting the ball at least 300 yards. But 300 yards in the wrong direction!!

I would rather be short and sure instead of long and wrong!!!. Early on, I resisted the move to a graphite shafted drive because I didn't like the "whippy" feel. Some of the more recent offerings are stiffer and feel more like my steel shaft. I am considering demoing a few.

But I must be real with myself. Golf is not my day job. It is a hobby that I enjoy. My scores are in the low to mid 80's . I'm not sure if I should make the move. I would prefer to keep my drivers in the fairway instead of searching the woods for a lost ball. I don't want to be "long and wrong"!!!
